The greenest building is the one that already exists.  Within every old structure are elements that can be reused.  Thus, Quigley Builders’ practice is to carefully deconstruct a building, reduce the amount of material that gets thrown away, and find new uses for those materials that can be reclaimed.  Cabinets, lighting fixtures, windows & doors, insulation, shelving, gutters, appliances, and sinks removed during demolition are donated to EcoBuilding Bargains in Springfield, MA.  Clean wood, metal, and cardboard are recycled.  Original timbers, trim, and floorboards are re-used whenever possible, often for a new use. Mixed waste is therefore kept to a minimum. In renovating the Bullitt Reservation farmhouse, old wall boards were repurposed as desk tops; only four dumpsters of mixed waste left the building site.
